Superelastic Carbon Aerogels: An Emerging Material for Advanced Thermal Protection in Extreme Environments

The ultrafine fibrous wadding materials with aerogel-like structure were successfully created in Ding’s group. The obtained materials showed superior warmth retention performance than that of commercial 3A-level down feather with the same weight, breaking through the bottleneck that the synthetic warmth retention materials are difficult to surpass the natural down feather. The ultrafine fibrous wadding materials are expected to be the next-generation warmth retention materials instead of natural warmth retention materials such as down feather.

The article entitled "Construction of fibrous materials with biomimetic cellular networks structure and their moisture adsorption and water collection performance" of Dr. Zhang Yufei was honored Chambroad Technology Award 2022-Chambroad Excellent Doctoral Thesis Award in the field of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials.
