Three-dimensional complex plasma on the Space Station

Collaborating with German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Joint Institute of High Temperature (JIHT), we study various phenomena in the binary complex plasmas in the PK-3 Plus (previous generation) and PK-4 laboratories on board the International Space Station. Under certain conditions, a binary complex plasma can form a phase separated system due to spinodal   decomposition or difference in force balance, such as ion drag force. An interface  between separated phases emerges and various interface phenomena such as transmission of solitary waves, are studied. Advanced analysis techniques such as neural networks have been applied.
